KIPFASHION DESIGN COMPETITION
The Kipfashion Design award 2020, an annual fashion design competition for designers has been recently opened for entries accepting applications from African designers. The prize was established in 2019 to support African designers’ as they begin their careers in African fashion.
Kipfashion wants to find the most promising African designers from the world’s top African fashion individuals and give them the opportunity to progress their career in fashion. African designers are welcome to participate by submitting their portfolios.
The Kipfashion Design Awards is searching for African fashion designers who know how to make an impact. The fashion design of the year winner will be a pioneer with the vision to explore new territory and the ability to set the agenda for style-conscious consumers everywhere and join the Kipfashion production team. A leader and not a follower, our winner will have a fresh approach to African fashion, creating innovative collections, and being unafraid to make waves.
Our competition seeks to recognize those who can take a spark of inspiration and brilliance and turn it into something that turns heads and really stands out on the catwalks and boutiques. We want to celebrate those who are able to create a signature style and use color and movement to create stunning outfits that evoke feelings of excitement, passion, and longing.

The prize was established in 2019 to support African designers’ as they begin their careers in African fashion. Kipfashion wants to find the most promising African designers from the world’s top African fashion individuals and give them the opportunity to progress their career in fashion.
African designers are welcome to participate by submitting their portfolios. Your collection should be based on dresses, skirts, jumpsuit, and pants, with at least 5 complete outfits per entry. The collection can focus on womenswear, menswear, kids-wear, or a mixed application.
Your portfolio should include:
• CV in English
• Personal cover letter in English
• Digital portfolio (e.g idea sketches and final designs)
The Kipfashion Design Award 2020 is held in English and it is very important that you are able to speak and understand this language.
The jury assesses the designers’ creativity, timeliness, innovation, craftsmanship, uniqueness, and the element of sustainability. The jury will also look at how well-made and well-coordinated the designer’s collection is.
After the application period closes, Kipfashion will go through all applications and select the semi-finalists. From the semi-final, the finalists will be chosen to proceed to the final and present their design collection at a special online event held at the end of July. The overall winner of the Kipfashion Design Award 2020 will then be selected.

YOU CAN CHOOSE FROM THE FOLLOWING THEMES:
- Sharing a piece of Africa with you
- Home of culture wears
➜ You need to submit 6 different designs.
➜ The designs should be inspired by one of the proposed themes.
➜ The contestant should describe the production techniques that will apply to their designs.
➜ The designs should be untraded original works and should be made in Africa.
➜ The digital file should contain the moodboard, the high-resolution images of the 6 designs, and details about the type of style. Please indicate the material of the fabric such as cotton, silk, wool, etc. related to your designs.
➜ The digital file must include the project title, theme, and the detailed description of the 6 designs with the production technics and the material of the fabric. The description should be maximum of 500 words.
➜ A separate document of curriculum vitae should be uploaded to the system.

➜ The 6 images can be photos, scans, computer drawings, or colored hand drawings.
